Crossfield Farmer's Market Thursdays

Had a great time at the Crossfield Farmer's Market.

Learned how to set up the tent.  It's not that hard once you figure it out.
And it's better when it's not under power lines.

Sold a fair bit of items and met some of "my people".... didn't have much time to see the other vendors, we were busy!

The guy that made a killing was the train engineer.   $3.00 a round trip.

Things were going nicely but then we got hit by a hurricane.
Earrings flying everywhere.

We were planning to attend July 23 but won't be there, sorry, have to return to BC.

Will be back from BC in August with more goodies!

  Can we go home now?

I could have sold my turtle several times.  He's my mascot.

I had a lot of specific requests for items.
Not sure if I can get them done in time but will try!

Crossfield Farmer's Market

We went on a reconnaissance mission to scope out a local farmer's market, in Crossfield.
It is an adorable little market.

https://www.facebook.com/crossfieldfarmersmarket/

Such a nice small town feel.
Lots of kids and dogs.

There was a lady selling amazing baked goods.
Huge cinnamon bun loafs.

I also met "Gracie" a gorgeous lady with pink hair who was selling those fabulous woven African baskets.
I have two but her colours were wonderful.... there go the profits.

The lovely woman who was in charge offered me a space to sell my jewelry.
YES said the husband.
GACK said me.

Directly from there, off to Costco to buy one of those nifty little white awnings. $300
Aaaaand some nice folding tables  5 @ $50 each
Aaaaaad a bunch more stuff.  FUN!

Loading The Tomato.

We practiced setting up the tent.

Note to self: do not set up under
low hanging power lines at old house yard in Mount Pleasant!

Anyway "To market, To market" ....Thursday. Crossfield.
It runs from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Next week there is going to be a train for the kids.

I am stoked!

Lilac Festival

Today was the famous Lilac Festival in Calgary.
We have never gone but we decided to see what was up.

We got there at 10:00 am because we heard it gets packed.
Was anyone left in Calgary in the burbs?
Nope, because THEY WERE ALL AT THE LILAC FESTIVAL.

It was packed but it was great!
TONS of vendors selling jewelry.

It was also geared to dog lovers.

My favorite vendor was "Eshururu" (www.eshururu.com) which sold gorgeous textiles handwoven in Ethiopia. The owner, Djaka Blais-Amare was so lovely.
I bought a blanket for my new grandbaby, arriving on the planet any minute.
It's soooooo soft and they get softer as you wash them.  This is from her website:

"We're partnering with Freedom Tree to support vulnerable women and children in Africa. Freedom Tree works in Sierra Leone to reduce levels of maternal and infant mortality one community at a time. A portion of proceeds from every Eshururu product goes towards supporting Freedom Tree projects".

Honestly there was so much jewelry it was too overwhelming.
This was a nice display.

 These people were cute.
They down came from Edmonton in their 1985 era RV.

They sell deliciously soft clothing with cute silk screened designs.

The people watching was the best part!

This classy and sun sensible mom really rocked her bag, hat and sweet pink dress
while juggling a small child, a stroller and a plethora of balloons.
Admittedly she did look a bit glassy eyed though.

After a while the hoards got to be too much.
Was glad I didn't have a small child or a dog in tow.
Just a husband that kept getting lost.

There were a LOT of politicians.  And dogs.

I liked it, but, I would go really early if I was going again.
I think I am good for a few years now!

Nassau Pirate Loot

Just spent a week in Nassau.

I saw the interior of every jewelry store and met every supplier in town!
Learned a lot about precious and semi precious stones,
especially emeralds from Columbia.
The stores cater to the large numbers of tourists,
many of whom arrive on the cruise ships.

 View from the hotel.

 ....."And they're off......"
Started with the hotel jewelry.
Lots of Swarovski and very bright and bold colours.

Hit the streets of downtown.  A LOT of jewelry stores.

Spent hours with the beautiful Sharon and Avery.
They told me all about Columbia and the emeralds.
Emerald is the birthstone for May.

Marahlago is a brand of Larimer (see background) which is a beautiful blue
stone sold in Nassau and stores in the Caribean.

The ladies in the store were so helpful.

Wasn't Solomon's Mines in Africa?

It was "Junkanoo" so we saw extra extra bling,
topped with extreme amounts of feathers.
Junkanoo is a cultural celebration that includes a street parade
and has lots of food, music, dance and costumes.
The roots go back to slavery, when slaves only had a few days off a year.
They would make costumes out of whatever was available,
such as feathers and shells.
Junkanoo parade. More bling. More feathers.

They had Junkanoo festivities at the resort too.
The moms were just out of the camera range.
They told me it took them a year to complete a costume,
working in the their spare time.

Straw Markets.

Guccini Jewellers sells Chamilia jewelry and has over 600 beads to choose from.
They also sell Fossil, Kors, Diesel, African, Opal, Rose Gold and Estate jewelry.

The lady who runs the store is named Cally Papageorge.
I came dangerously close to blurting out "His name is not Pappagiorgio! His name is Rusty Griswold and he's a C+ student!"
But I managed not to.
Ms. Papegeorge knows a lot about opals.

 It was hot.

When in doubt, proudly exclaim "Turtles lay eggs!"

 Stellar bathrooms at Atlantis.

Park your boat at Atlantis too.

Another Columbian Emerald store.
Also spent a lot of time there learning yet more about emeralds.

Would not tell me where he buried the jewelry.

Forgot where he buried the jewelry.

I also met some fellow sea glass and handmade jewelry artists. Check out Fine Ocean Jewelry on Facebook. Astrid Pinder sells her very artistic and beautiful sea glass and shell jewelry in Nassau at markets and resorts.  Her husband and son are treasure seekers and often find fantastic pieces of sea glass on the ocean floor.  Astrid told me that most of the white Bahamian folks who have lived there going back many generations are descended from pirates!  Sort of like having convict roots in Australia!
